Don’t Let a Dental Emergency Make You Anxious

Winter is almost here (and for some of us, it already is!) and in the busyness of the season you don’t want to have to worry about dental emergencies that can come up. But since it helps to be prepared, we have some ideas to help you.

Although you will want to get to our dental office in the event an emergency arises, there are some things you can do at home while you wait.

Toothache
If you have a toothache that isn’t going away, you may want to carefully clean the affected area using a cotton swab or soft toothbrush. You can also use salt water for oral issues, gently rinsing with salt water around the affected tooth. For pain relief, you may take acetaminophen until you can come in to be seen.

Loose Tooth
If you have a loose tooth, you can gently guide it back into place until you can come in. To support the tooth while it is loose, you can place some moistened gauze around it to hold it steady.

Fallen Tooth
You can save a tooth that has fallen out if you get to the dental office within the first hour. Rinse it gently with water to avoid damaging the roots, and carefully wrap it in some gauze moistened with milk, saliva or even salt water until you are seen. If you cannot get to our dental office after hours, you might want to go to the emergency room instead.

Most importantly, you will want to remain calm so you can care for the injured area and not cause further damage. The staff at Acrewood Dental wish you a safe and happy winter season, and are here to help you keep your healthy smile! Please call us at one of our dental offices nearest you if you have any questions or concerns about dental emergencies, or to schedule your next dental visit.
